Former Ohio State wide receiver Brian Hartline is once again an NFL free agent as the Cleveland Browns released him Monday afternoon. Pro Football Talk first reported the news.
Hartline signed a two-year, $6 million deal with Cleveland in March 2015 after spending seven seasons with the Miami Dolphins, the franchise that made him the No. 108 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.
He caught 46 balls for 523 yards and two touchdowns in 2015 while earning $3 million. He was set to earn another $3 million in 2016, and the Browns took five receivers in this year's draft, including a No. 1 pick in former Baylor WR Corey Coleman.
Hartline won't turn 30 until November, so another team could still take a flier. He wouldn't be the first player to go on to greater things after getting released by the Browns.
