When the New Orleans Saints play the 2016 season, it will be in honor of their late captain, Will Smith.
Friday, before New Orleans played the Houston Texans in NFL preseason action, the Saints unveiled "Smith 91" helmet decals they will wear throughout the 2016 season in honor of their late captain, Will Smith.
Joel Erickson of The New Orleans Advocate first reported the news.
Smith was fatally shot in April after a roadside altercation. Cardell Hayes, a 29-year-old former minor league football player indicted for murder, awaits trial.
The Saints kick off their regular season Sunday, Sept. 11 against the Oakland Raiders.
