Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward delivered the most punishing hit of the 2017 campaign on Maryland receiver Tavion Jacobs in the first quarter on Saturday.
Unfortunately for Ward, referees called him for targeting—a call they confirmed upon review. The penalty immediately ejected him.
Tuesday, Urban Meyer confirmed what Buckeye fans had long suspected: The call was egregious.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Big Ten apologized to him for Denzel Ward targeting call. "The replay official was in error," they said.

Meyer will credit Ward for the forced fumble, as well.
