Ohio State finally appears ready to state that true freshman J.K. Dobbins, not redshirt sophomore Mike Weber, is the Buckeyes' starting running back.
One day after Meyer said as much during his Monday press conference, Dobbins has been moved to the top row of Ohio State's running back depth chart in advance of the Buckeyes' game this Saturday against Michigan State.
While Dobbins has started all nine of Ohio State's games this season, Weber was still listed on the top row of the running back depth chart as of last week, though Weber and Dobbins have been listed as co-starters at the position all year.
While Weber is still listed as a co-starter at running back, Dobbins played nearly twice as many snaps as Weber against Iowa. Weber has added some special teams responsibility to his plate, however, as he is now listed as a co-starter on kickoff returns along with Parris Campbell. Weber handled kickoff return duties against the Hawkeyes on Saturday as Campbell, who has been cleared to return from injury this week, did not make the trip to Iowa City.
Ohio State's full published depth chart for this week's game against Michigan State is below.
Other notes on this week's depth chart:
- Although Sean Nuernberger has kicked every one of Ohio State's field goals and extra points this year, while Blake Haubeil had his best game of the season after resuming his duties as Ohio State's kickoff specialist against Iowa, Nuernberger and Haubeil are listed as co-starters at both kicker and kickoff specialist.
- Chris Worley and Tuf Borland are still listed as co-starters at middle linebacker. Worley started for the Buckeyes against Iowa but was replaced by Borland in the third quarter after coming out of the game with an apparent injury.
- Josh Myers, Wyatt Davis and Tate Martell are still listed on the depth chart even though all of them are expected to redshirt, as none of them have played in a game this season.
- Demario McCall, who has not played in any of Ohio State's last three games and could be a candidate to apply for a medical redshirt, is now listed as the Buckeyes' fourth-team running back behind Antonio Williams (McCall and Williams previously held co-third-team designations).
- Michael Hill remains absent from Ohio State's defensive tackle even though he has played in each of the Buckeyes' last two games while Davon Hamilton and Haskell Garrett have played in neither.
- Erick Smith is still listed on the depth chart and roster as No. 34 despite playing with No. 46 in Ohio State's last three games.
