Not too long ago, it wasn't a foregone conclusion senior defensive tackle Haskell Garrett would ever play football again.
He was injured when shot in the face a half-mile away from Ohio State's campus early on Aug. 30. Garrett told Columbus Police officers that he saw a man and a woman arguing, he told the man to stop then got shot. First responders took him to the hospital, which released him a day later.
At the time, defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs had the same idea as most people: "I would have thought season over, career over."
Instead, Garrett didn't miss a single game. He came off the bench as a rotational defensive tackle early in Saturday's season opener against Nebraska and, incredibly, recorded the first sack of his team's season late in the second quarter.

The sack of quarterback Adrian Martinez on 2nd-and-15 put the Cornhuskers into 3rd-and-long territory with less than three minutes remaining in the first half.
Garrett also secured a tackle on a three-yard rush early in the second quarter. He entered halftime tied for fourth on the team with a pair of tackles.
A month and a half ago, many wondered whether Garrett would even play football again. But on Saturday, he became the first Buckeye this season with a sack.
