Hearts were heavy outside Ohio Stadium Tuesday night as hundreds gathered to remember late Buckeye quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
Ohio State football players, students, fans, administrators and those who knew Haskins came out in droves to a candlelight vigil that paid tribute to the life of the record-setting passer and first-round NFL draft pick, who died at age 24 this past Saturday after being struck by a car in Florida.
Current and former Ohio State football players in attendance included Kamryn Babb, Sevyn Banks, Chris Fields, Dallas Gant, Jaylen Harris, Jalyn Holmes, Marcus Hooker, Javontae Jean-Baptiste, Paris Johnson Jr., Xavier Johnson, Cardale Jones, Matt Jones Derrick Malone, Kyle McCord, Lloyd McFarquhar, Teradja Mitchell, Gee Scott Jr., Cody Simon, Master Teague, J.T. Tuimoloau and Taron Vincent. Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith and defensive line graduate assistant Cam Spence, who has known Haskins since they were both high school football players in Maryland, were also in attendance.
Teague, Fields and Jones all spoke about Haskins in front of the crowd assembled outside the north rotunda of Ohio Stadium, followed by seven minutes of silence to honor Haskins' No. 7. There were also two musical performances of Carmen Ohio before the crowd began to disperse outside of the Horseshoe.
