Jake Seibert is heading to the MAC.

The former Ohio State kicker announced Tuesday that he is transferring to Northern Illinois, where he will continue his college football career after three seasons as a Buckeye.

Seibert, who will bring three years of eligibility to NIU, made the only field goal of his Ohio State career on a 23-yard kick in the national championship game against Alabama at the end of the 2020 season, when Seibert was a true freshman. He did not see any game action over the past two seasons as Noah Ruggles handled placekicking duties.

While Seibert also spent time practicing at cornerback in 2022, he never saw any playing time on defense. Coming out of this spring, Seibert did not appear likely to factor into this year’s kicking competition after Jayden Fielding, Parker Lewis and Casey Magyar handled kicking duties in the spring game.

Seibert seeks a fresh start and the chance to earn playing time at NIU, which is in need of a new kicker as John Richardson, who made 18 of 23 field goal attempts for the Huskies in 2022, is no longer playing college football.

Seibert becomes the second Buckeye to transfer to a MAC school this offseason, joining former Ohio State walk-on linebacker Jackson Kuwatch, who transferred to Miami.

With Seibert’s commitment to NIU, every Buckeye who entered the transfer portal during the post-spring window has found a new home. Former Ohio State wide receivers Kaleb Brown and Caleb Burton transferred to Iowa and Auburn while former Buckeye offensive lineman Ben Christman transferred to Kentucky.
