Ohio State’s Ryan Day is the Fifth-Highest-Paid Coach in College Football

Ryan Day is the fifth-highest-paid college football coach in the country, according to USA Today's coaching salary database, whose update for the 2024 season was released Wednesday. 

Day is set to earn $10,021,250 in total compensation this season, only behind Georgia coach Kirby Smart ($13,282,580), Clemson coach Dabo Swinney ($11,132,775), Texas coach Steve Sarkisian ($10,600,000) and USC's Lincoln Riley ($10,043,418).

Day has a contract buyout of $37,276,042, according to the database. 

Riley and Day are the two highest-paid coaches in the Big Ten, with Penn State's James Franklin (13th nationally, $8,500,000 in total compensation) and Dan Lanning (14th, $8,200,000) coming in behind them.

Other Big Ten coaches in the top 20 include Wisconsin's Luke Fickell (18th, $7,725,000) and Washington's Jedd Fisch (19th, $7,700,023). Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is the 35th highest-paid coach, earning $6 million per season.
