Ohio State conquers Chicago with a 31-7 beatdown of Northwestern at Wrigley Field.
For a bit more than a quarter, it looked like Northwestern might drag Ohio State into a close football game.
The Wildcats collected 151 yards on their first two possessions and took a 7-0 lead. Then Ohio State responded as it should against an overmatched opponent, allowing only 100 yards on Northwestern’s final seven possessions as it cruised to a 31-7 win over the Wildcats.
Carnell Tate dazzled with two touchdowns in an emotional win before a hometown crowd for the Chicago native. Sonny Styles continues emerging at linebacker, collecting two sacks and two pass breakups, while Jack Sawyer posted a career-high seven tackles with a key forced fumble and three quarterback hits. Jeremiah Smith kept producing, with four receptions for 100 yards.
Buckeye Nation showed out, too, giving Ohio State a home crowd in a road game as Buckeye fans filled up at least 80% of the seats in Wrigley Field.
It was ultimately another methodical November win for the Buckeyes, who scored 31 unanswered points to close the game to leave with a comfortable victory ahead of a much bigger test against unbeaten Indiana next week.
