Fields is currently a backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers after spending three seasons with the Chicago Bears from 2021-23. The Bears selected Fields with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft following his decorated career at Ohio State. In his two years with the Buckeyes, Fields completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 5,373 yards, 63 touchdowns and nine interceptions, earning two Big Ten Quarterback of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year awards for his performances. He was also named a second-team All-American in 2019.
Fields becomes the third straight former Ohio State player to serve as a guest picker for a GameDay broadcast in Columbus, as quarterback C.J. Stroud (Penn State, 2023) and linebacker A.J. Hawk (Michigan, 2022) were the most recent guest pickers. Fields is able to serve as this week's guest picker after the Steelers fell to the Browns, 24-19, on Thursday Night Football in Cleveland.
Some other guest pickers for GameDay broadcasts at Ohio State have included musicians Jack Harlow (2022, Notre Dame) and Twenty-One Pilots (2021, Michigan State), Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George (2019, Penn State) and MLB star Bryce Harper (2018, Michigan).
FOX‘s Big Noon Kickoff will also broadcast from Ohio State’s campus on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. The Big Noon Kickoff set will be located outside the RPAC south of Ohio Stadium.
