The time to grieve over defeat and lick wounds has passed. For Ohio State, there remains a postseason to play.

Although losing to TTUN felt like a humiliating end of the world in many respects, the new College Football Playoff format gives the Buckeyes a renewed sense of purpose following another absence from conference championship week. Ohio State will host Tennessee after securing the eighth seed in the CFP bracket, which means Columbus will host a college football game for the first time ever in December just a handful of days before Christmas.

Johnny and I offer thoughts on the pivotal showdown for OSU’s championship aspirations as well as Ryan Day’s potential head coaching future with the Buckeyes. We also provide some perspective on each of the other first-round matchups arranged by the CFP committee this past Sunday.

Additionally, the Dubcast discussion also covers:

  • The selection show itself was kind of a mess between all the fly-arounds to reporters at various schools and ESPN’s shameless apologizing for Alabama. How much more water will the “Worldwide Leader” continue to carry for the Crimson Tide this season now that the former Saban empire has missed the Playoff?
  • Ask Us Anything — writers to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com this week inquired about many topics, such as whether Chip Kelly or Ryan Day deserves the lion’s share of blame for the play calling woes in OSU’s latest defeat.
  • Devin Brown has decided to hit the portal after this season. Will Ohio State come to regret not playing Julian Sayin more in garbage time earlier this year?
  • Another child of Kirk Herbstreit has committed to playing football for a school openly beefing with the Buckeyes. Should OSU respond by offering Peter the golden retriever a scholarship of his own?
  • Men’s soccer made the Final Four! Is it time to sing “It’s Coming Home” in Columbus?

And that does it for the Dubcast this week! Watch the show now on YouTube above, listen via the mini player below or visit our Transistor page for links to other listening options such as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and more.
