Nick Saban Thinks Some Ohio State Fans Need to “Get Therapy” For Their “Psychotic Obsession” With Michigan

Nick Saban took another shot at Ohio State fans on Friday.

In an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the former Alabama head coach called the Buckeyes "the most talented team" in college football. If Ohio State performs like it did against Tennessee last weekend, Saban said it will have "a really good chance to win a championship."

That said, Saban was critical of how some Ohio State fans have viewed their favorite team as it makes a run for a College Football Playoff title.

"You know, we've kind of gotten on their fans a little bit. But, you know, these Ohio State fans? They've got a psychotic obsession with Michigan, and they need to go get therapy or something to try to get it fixed," Saban said. "They have a chance to win the national championship. Here you are, but nobody's excited about their opportunity to play because they lost to Michigan, which was a tough game and they lost the game, probably, by some of the mistakes they made. Those are correctable things."

Saban's comments come one week after he implored Ohio State fans to "quit all this negative bullshit" before the team faced Tennessee in the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes went on to beat the Volunteers 42-17 in Columbus. Amid ESPN's broadcast of the contest, Kirk Herbstreit slammed negative Ohio State fans, which he called "the lunatic fringe" of Buckeye supporters.

"I can't speak on behalf of the lunatic fringe. I'm not sure how they operate. The lunatic fringe at Ohio State is as powerful as anywhere in the country ... I don't know. I'm sure they'll be happy tonight. They'll be fired up about what the Ohio State team did. But God forbid they lose to Oregon. They'd want to fire (Ryan Day) again."

Day is 64-10 as Ohio State's head coach and has a 1-4 record against Michigan. He will have a chance to secure his 65th victory when he and the Buckeyes face Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. That matchup will kickoff at 5 p.m. ET from Pasadena, with Chris Fowler, Herbstreit and Holly Rowe on the call for ESPN.
