During Ohio State's national championship celebration at the Horseshoe, athletic director Ross Bjork hinted that Ryan Day could be in line for a contract extension.

"He is the Buckeye coach for years to come," Bjork said.

After the celebration, Ohio State president Ted Carter confirmed to Eleven Warriors that Day and the school have discussed an extension. Day's current contract, which he signed in 2022, runs through the 2028 season and compensates him $9.96 million per year following a raise he received in 2023.

"We’re working it. We don't have any announcements yet, but we have intent.” Carter said. “I know Ryan wants to stay here, so we’re working the details.”

Day led Ohio State to its ninth national title in 2024, rebounding from a loss to Michigan with wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. In addition to the championship, Day has a 70-10 record as the Buckeyes' head coach. His .875 winning percentage ranks first among FBS coaches.
