After Jack Sawyer went 83 Yards Through the Heart of Texas in the Cotton Bowl, the Longhorns needed a Hero.
Hero Kanu, that is.
The former Ohio State defensive tackle announced Wednesday that he will transfer to Texas for the 2025 college football season. He will have two years of eligibility to use with the Longhorns.

Kanu arrived in Columbus as the No. 129 overall prospect and No. 19 defensive lineman in the 2022 class, according to the 247Sports composite. Born and raised in Geltendorf, Germany, Kanu moved to America for his senior year of high school and played for Santa Margarita Catholic in California.
Kanu played sparingly in his three years at Ohio State. The 6-foot-5, 305-pound athlete had a spot in the defensive tackle rotation in 2024 but earned just 123 snaps, which ranked behind Tyleik Williams, Ty Hamilton, Kayden McDonald and Eddrick Houston. Kanu recorded four tackles (one solo, three combined) in his opportunities this past season. He ended his Buckeye career with 14 tackles and one sack.
With Williams and Hamilton off to the NFL and Kanu off to Texas, Ohio State has thinned out at the defensive tackle position entering 2025. McDonald and Houston seem to be the frontrunners to start at nose guard and 3-tech, but Jason Moore and Tywone Malone will also compete for those spots. Behind that quartet, the Buckeyes will look for continued development out of Will Smith Jr. and Eric Mensah as freshmen Jarquez Carter, Trajen Odom and Maxwell Roy enter the program this year.
