Ohio State has hired Matt Patricia as its new defensive coordinator.
A recent former Ohio State football player has passed away.
Former Ohio State offensive lineman Ben Christman, who had transferred to UNLV this offseason, died Tuesday at his off-campus apartment in Las Vegas, the Clark County Coroner’s office confirmed Wednesday. A cause of death has not been released.
A four-star recruit in the 2021 class from Akron, Ohio, Christman spent two seasons in Columbus before transferring to Kentucky in 2023. He spent two years with the Wildcats before transferring to UNLV in December. Christman was set to play for former Ohio State assistant offensive line coach Mike Sollenne, who became UNLV’s offensive line coach in January.
“UNLV Athletics was notified earlier today of the passing of a student-athlete who was a member of the football team at their off-campus residence,” the UNLV athletic department said in a statement Tuesday night. “This is an extremely difficult day for our athletics department and the university community.”
The Ohio State football team offered its condolences to Christman’s family and friends in a post on its X accounts.
