Ohio State is adding two former Power 4 offensive line coaches to its support staff for the 2025 season.
According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Ohio State is hiring former Purdue offensive line coach Marcus Johnson and former Oklahoma State offensive line coach Charlie Dickey to serve in “senior analyst-type roles” for the 2025 season.

Johnson, a former NFL offensive lineman from 2005-09, joins the Buckeyes’ staff after two years as the offensive line coach at Purdue. An Ole Miss alum, Johnson has nine years of experience as a Power 4 offensive line coach, having also coached the offensive lines at Duke (2016-17), Mississippi State (2018-19) and Missouri (2020-22).
Dickey is a 37-year coaching veteran who spent the past six years coaching the offensive line at Oklahoma State. Before that, Dickey was the offensive line coach at Kansas State from 2009-18, also serving as Kansas State’s run game coordinator in 2016 and 2017 and as its co-offensive coordinator in 2018. Dickey was also previously the offensive line coach at Utah (2005-08), Washington (2004), Arizona (1992-2002) and Northern Arizona (1990-91).
Now that there is no limit on the number of coaches who can be on the field for practices and games, both of them could play a crucial role in developing Ohio State’s offensive linemen in 2025 alongside new offensive line coach and run game coordinator Tyler Bowen. While Bowen, who was previously Virginia Tech’s offensive coordinator, will lead Ohio State’s offensive line development, he has not been an offensive line coach since 2017, making the experience of Dickey and Johnson coaching that position group valuable.
Ohio State is also reportedly hiring former Penn State offensive lineman and Dartmouth associate head coach Wendy Laurent as an analyst. Dickey, Johnson and Laurent join Bowen and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia as new members of Ohio State’s staff for the 2025 season.
