The American Hockey Coaches Association announced its All-American selections for 2017. For the third time in the last five years, that list includes a Buckeye. Mason Jobst was named a Second Team All-American (West). This marks the tenth time a Buckeye has earned All-American distinction. It is the second occurrence during Steve Rohlik’s tenure as head coach.

This is a well deserved honor for Jobst. The sophomore chalked up another outstanding season in 2016-17. He was one of the nation’s top point producers, finishing seventh with 55 points (19 goals and 36 assists). He tied for second overall in assists and ranked third in power play points (30).

Jobst’s production hit an all-time high in the second half of the season. He manufactured offense at a furious pace which no other player in the country could match. His 1.62 points per game over the second half was tops in the NCAA. He closed the year with points in 21 of his final 24 outings.

The impressive output was by no means the only way in which Jobst made an impact this year. The all-around contributor became the Bucks’ go-to faceoff man, winning a Big Ten best 478 draws. He also logged major minutes on the Buckeye penalty kill, where he recorded a team high two shorthanded goals, and led all OSU forwards in shots blocked (31).

Jobst becomes the ninth different Buckeye to earn All-American honors. The exclusive club includes Paul Pooley (1984), Perry Pooley (1984), Hugo Boisvert (1998, 1999), Jeff Maund (1999), R.J. Umberger (2003), Zac Dalpe (2010), Brady Hjelle (2013), and Ryan Dzingel (2014).

  • The Big Ten placed two other players on the All-American teams. Both are forwards, Minnesota’s Tyler Sheehy (First Team) and Wisconsin’s Luke Kunin (Second Team).
