While three current Ohio State wrestling standouts were in Minnesota fighting for a spot on the U.S. World Team, one future Buckeye earned a No. 1 ranking at FloWrestling's "Who's Number One" tournament.

Gavin Hoffman, class of 2018, upended future Penn State rival Michael Beard with a 7-6 decision.

Held at the Lehigh Valley "Snake Pit," the tournament pits the top high school wrestlers in the country against one another for bragging rights and rankings.

Hoffman wrestled at 195, and is considered a likely successor to Kollin Moore when he gets to the Buckeye Wrestling Room and joins Tom Ryan's roster. Hoffman had an outstanding freestyle season, representing Team USA at the Cadet World Championships in Paris, winning the Bronze Medal at 85kg.

In addition to Hoffman's big win, Buckeye fans were also watching 160-pound standout David Carr of Massillon Perry High School. Carr has Ohio State in his Top 5, and he earned the #1 ranking by piling some back points on Indiana native Joe Lee.
