Linebacker Ryan Shazier and cornerback Bradley Roby were named to Sports Illustrated's 2013 Preseason All-American team today.
Shazier, an honorable mention All-America and first-team all-Big Ten selection in 2012, led the league in tackles-for-loss with 17, while finishing second in the Big Ten in tackles with 115. His 70 solo tackles were the most by a Buckeye in 10 years (Matt Wilhelm with 79 in '02). Shazier was previously named to USA Today and Phil Steele's preseason All-American teams, and named to the Bednarik, Nagurski, Lombardi and Butkus awards preseason watch lists.
Roby led nation in passes defended last season with 19, including 17 pass break-ups, tying an Ohio State single season record, is a strong candidate for the Thorpe award this season, but first must face discipline for a July incident at a bar in Bloomington, Ind.
The two represent the first Buckeyes selected to SI's preseason All-American team since center Michael Brewster was named to the team in 2011.
