Ohio State just picked up Big Ten Pitcher of the Week awards in baseball and softball for strong performances from Brad Goldberg and Alex DiDomenico. First, Goldberg and his two-hitter:
Goldberg, from Beachwood, Ohio, picked up the win in his Ohio State debut as the Buckeyes topped St. John's, 3-1, Sunday. The senior tossed seven scoreless innings, striking out seven while giving up two hits. He allowed just one baserunner past second base.
Not to be outdone, DiDomenico held batters to a .130 average in three appearances:
DiDomenico, from Youngstown, Ohio, posted a spotless earned run average last weekend, pitching 15 innings in three appearances at the Jacksonville Tournament where she held opponents to a .130 average. She closed the weekend with an eight-inning effort against No. 16/17 Louisville, scattering just four hits while striking out three in the win Feb. 16. DiDomenico won the opening game against Bethune-Cookman Feb. 15, striking out four, before coming onto pitch three innings of scoreless relief against the Wildcats Feb. 15.
