First there was this story from Dan Murphy of Notre Dame's 24/7 site:
A foursome of Notre Dame veterans was not seen leaving the Irish practice field Friday afternoon. Cornerback KeiVarae Russell, defensive end Ishaq Williams, linebacker Kendall Moore and wide receiver DaVaris Daniels were not among the players who exited the LaBar Practice Field Friday.
Then Pat Forde logged into Twitter dot com and dropped this bomb on us:
Yahoo Sports sources: investigation into academic fraud underway at Notre Dame, football players (as well as regular students) part of probe

And then followed it up with this story:
The situation was described to Yahoo Sports as a potential “honor code violation,” which could result in the ineligibility of the players. Under NCAA protocol, if any fraud that occurred impacted players’ eligibility, the school could ultimately vacate victories. Both Daniels and Russell were significant players during Notre Dame’s 2012 season, when the Irish went 12-0 before losing to Alabama in the BCS Championship Game.
Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson missed last season because of an academic issue that was reportedly an honor code violation. This is believed to be a separate situation.
Honor codes... they get ya every time.
