Sources told NFL.com's Ian Rapaport over the weekend Michigan actually preferred Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh over his brother, and coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Jim Harbaugh.
While Jim Harbaugh is the more Michigan-linked Harbaugh brother, it's not as if John isn't a Super Bowl-winning coach with tremendous pedigree.
He's also, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun, not interested in the Michigan job:
While Michigan may be interested in him, John Harbaugh isn't expected to pursue a job currently held by his friend, Hoke, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
The source said there are multiple reasons why John Harbaugh wouldn't be inclined to go after the job beyond his friendship and loyalty to Hoke. A big reason is that Harbaugh is content as coach of the Ravens (3-1), with whom he won Super Bowl XLVII just two seasons ago over Jim Harbaugh's 49ers.
John Harbaugh has not commented on being linked to Michigan.
While it's unclear if Harbaugh is truly uninterested in the job or if this is just a play for leverage, one thing is clear: Michigan will need to hit an Urban-Meyer-to-OSU home run to soothe the fanbase, which is getting quite restless.
