Texas A&M was picked by many to contend for college football's second playoffs. The Aggies started hot too, rolling out to a 5-0 record, including a victory at Arizona State.
But then the bye week came, and A&M's season took a turn for the worst.
The Aggies are 0-2 in as many weeks after getting throttled (41-23) at home against Alabama and on the road the following week at Ole Miss (23-3).
In the loss at Ole Miss, Sumlin benched starter Kyle Allen in the fourth quarter but skipped backup Kyler Murray due to his swearing at A&M's OC during the Alabama game.
Jake Hubenak mopped up the gory remains of A&M's offense.
This week, competition is open.
From The Houston Chronicle:
COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin on Friday will make an announcement he never envisioned in August: Who will start at quarterback for the Aggies, seven games into the season.
Sumlin said Tuesday during his weekly press conference that he met with sophomores Kyle Allen and Jake Hubenak and freshman Kyler Murray on Monday and told them he’d evaluate their practice, leadership and demeanor, among other things, throughout the week.
A&M hosts South Carolina on Saturday. They have to win that one, right?
