Just a month ago we were all tipping our cap to Charlie Strong after Texas dumped No. 10 Oklahoma in Whatever They're Calling the Red River Shootout These Days.
But it took a turn for the worst on Saturday for Texas. The Longhorns were shutout 24-0 by Iowa State in Ames. Texas is now 3-5 and has games remaining against West Virginia, Texas Tech, and Baylor.
Charlie Strong, however, claims he's not embarrassed by the result.
Charlie Strong - "I don't think that was embarrassing Saturday because we played hard." #Texas #HookEm

To be fair, it's a tough spot for ol' Charlie. On one hand, he can say he wasn't embarrassed and suffer that backlash. On the other, he could admit embarrassment but that's another direct indictment of his skill as a coach.
Needless to say, some of his players disagreed.
Gray: "It was a huge embarrassment. We went out there and laid an egg...it was an embarrassment to us and to this organization."

Told that Strong didn't think the Iowa State was an embarrassment, DT Hassan Ridgeway said, "He said it wasn't?"

Strong is in the thick of it now. It may not be fair to fire him, but the results have done little to instill longterm confidence.
If I were Texas, I'd eat the sunk costs and make a move for legendary MENSA member Tom Herman. That could be a decision akin to "Tyrone Swoopes over J.T. Barrett."
