What books has everyone on here been reading lately? Myself
The Sympathizer-Viet Thanh Nguyen-It just won the Pulitzer Prize. Sort of along the same thematic lines as The Kite Runner but sicker and more twisted/cynical. Highly recommended.
Gorbachev:His Life and Times-William Taubman Excellent, highly readable and well paced bio of Mikhail Gorbachev. Gives a lot of context as to what Gorbachev was really thinking/trying to accomplish during his tenure as the last Soviet Premier.
A Kingdom of Their Own:The Family Karzai and the Afghan Disaster The title explains it all, and the author does an amazing job of illustrating the rot down to the most personal interactions of the Karzai clan.
Gunslinger:The Remarkable, Improbable Life of Brett Favre-Jeff Perlman From the same guy who wrote the iconic biography of Walter Payton, this is a highly unvarnished-but fair bio of one of the 2 or 3 GOATS. Not a hagiography if that is what you like, but very fair and perceptive-it is remarkable how much of Favre's success and skill as a QB is largely self taught and internal.
Pill City: How Two Honor Roll Students Foiled the Feds and aBuilt a Drug Empire-Kevin Deutsch Steve Urkel meets The Wire....most harrowing story i have read in quite a while...
The Late Show-Michael Connelly If you like Connelly's work in general, you will like this novel. His new character is kind of annoying, but his plotting and sense of place are excellent as usual.
