Fans of the glory days of WMMS radio will want to get their wallets out. John Gorman, the single greatest driver behind turning WMMS into a cultural force, is having an auction.
From cleveland.com:
The auction, which ends at midnight Saturday, Nov. 6, features artifacts from The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Guns ‘N Roses, Queen, The Clash, David Bowie, Linda Ronstadt, Fleetwood Mac, U2, Heart, Neil Young, AC/DC and numerous others.
For those familiar with Cleveland music history, the collection also features WMMS items, including staff jackets from the station’s golden years and artifacts from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s groundbreaking and opening in 1995.
“I am hoping that most, if not all, goes to Greater Cleveland residents and expatriates that will appreciate the historical value,” Gorman says. “Like Rod Stewart once sang about pictures, every piece of memorabilia tells a story. Interesting ones, too.”
Many of the items have appeared over the years in exhibits in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Fans can bid for the memorabilia via Backstage Auctions. https://www.backstageauctions.com/catalog/john-gorman-collection/ac/0/1955/
