Louisiana-Monroe is hiring Terry Bowden as their new HC. Fine... whatever. It's a strange move for a guy who was a head coach in the SEC, but so was going to Akron.
What's really weird is that he, "has spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant at Clemson, where he's pursuing a master's degree."
WHAT?! First off, his Wikipedia bio says he did graduate studies at Oxford (yes, that Oxford) and has a law degree from FSU, so whatever degree he's supposedly pursuing from Clemson seems tenuous.
Secondly, do you understand how important those graduate assistant roles are for young guys, particularly former players, to get their feet wet in coaching? Think of a coach -- any coach -- and go look up their bio. 90% of them began as a graduate assistant somewhere. So Clemson (and Terry Bowden) spent the last two years taking an opportunity away from a kid so they could bend the rules and hire a 64-year-old with 30 years of coaching experience.
Classy.
