Basically differentiating between who you think the AP/CFP would rank in the top 5 vs. a power ranking sort of deal, meaning who the top 5 best teams are in a snapshot right now. The CFP ranking/AP ranking take into account the entire season while a power ranking can be a snap shot of where the season is right now and who the best teams are at the moment:
AP/CFP ranking:
1. Georgia 2. Cincinnati 3. Oklahoma 4. Ohio State 5. Alabama-- I think Ohio State proved they're at least the 4th best team, if you look at head to head resumes, the Ohio State loss to Oregon hurts less than the Alabama loss to A&M and I think the match-ups of Ohio State vs. Indiana and Alabama vs. Tennessee were pretty equal in terms of an elite team playing a less than stellar team and Ohio State by far had the better performance.
Power ranking:
1. Georgia 2. Ohio State 3. Michigan 4. Cincinnati 5. Oklahoma-- I think right now Georgia and Ohio State flat out are the two teams no one wants to play. At the moment they're two rabid animals locked in cages staring at each other from across the room just waiting at a crack at one another. I think the Georgia defense vs. the Ohio State offense is the marquee match-up everyone wants to see, hopefully the post-season shakes out so that we get that match-up.
Hate to say it, but so far so good for Michigan. They're undefeated much longer into the season than I thought they would be, but looking at their schedule they really do not have an impressive win yet. If they can get past Sparty this week, then I think that sends a message that they belong (until the Buckeyes come to town). Cincinnati and Oklahoma are attached at the hip currently no matter how you shake it. I think Cincinnati has a better signature win, and even though the Big 12 is a power 5 conference, I can't say top to bottom it's any better than that AAC.
Long way to go, but the Buckeyes are in control of their own destiny, no question about it.
