A ranked win over then-No. 19 Texas was enough to get Ohio State men's basketball a ranking of its own.
The Buckeyes vaulted up to No. 21 in the AP Poll and No. 22 in the Coaches Poll following their 80-72 victory over the Longhorns after being unranked in both polls to start the season.
Ohio State was not ranked in the AP Poll during its 22-14 campaign last season. The Buckeyes were ranked No. 24 on Jan. 2, 2023, as they entered full-time conference play for the 2022-23 season, but they lost 14 of their next 15 games en route to a 16-19 finish. This is the first time the team has been ranked since.
Kansas landed atop the AP Poll followed by Alabama, UConn, Gonzaga and Auburn to round out the top five. The Coaches Poll features the same top three but has Auburn fourth and Gonzaga fifth.
No. 13 Purdue, No. 16 Indiana and No. 24 Rutgers are the only other Big Ten teams ranked in the AP Poll. Purdue landed at No. 12 in the Coaches Poll while Indiana and Rutgers were the same by the coaches as in the AP. Illinois received the 26th-most votes in the AP Poll with 144, while Michigan State (41), Oregon (14), Wisconsin (6), Maryland (3) and Michigan (1) also received votes.
Ohio State continues its season Monday against Youngstown State in Value City Arena. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
