Looks like the first proverbial sh!t from the Pandora's box that is NIL is about to hit the fan for some prominent schools.
From an article on The Spun website ...
After complaining about name, image and likeness rules, Emmert suggested there are schools under investigation. He said the NCAA is investigating “a number” of schools for potential NIL violations.
No speculation is given in the article as to which schools are under the microscope, nor which NIL rules have been broken.
However, a tweet from (dubious) Big 12 reporter Tim Shepard indicates the schools might be Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Florida.
#Breaking: Per NIL source, Texas A&M, OU, and Florida are amongst the first schools undergoing investigation due to NIL rules being broken. #Big12 #SEC

One has to wonder if the $50k/yr. NIL deal for Texas lineman to do "charity work" will come under scrutiny as well, though it isn't explicitly mentioned anywhere yet.

Hopefully, our Buckeyes stay clear of any violations, even though we have been early adopters of the NIL opportunities for its athletes. (See Ewers, Quinn, and others).
It will be interesting to see what shakes out. Because NIL is an interim policy put in place by the NCAA (as forced by the States), there may not be any teeth in regulating it. It is not a federal policy, and is subject to state and school rules as well.
Really, it was only a matter of time before this happened.
