If you've never heard the term "bonus babies" before, it's from a time in baseball when there was no draft. Teams went out and bid on the best players, and spent tons of money trying to outbid the competition on each player. 

Finally, after years of wasting money on players that mostly never panned out, MLB came up with the draft as a way of allocating a player to negotiate his potential salary with one team instead of the whole league.

That's all I can think about with the Texas A&M debacle, and seeing other future scenarios. How much money is going to be wasted recruiting kids to a school only to see the kid not live up to the hype or fall victim to an unfortunate injury? 

There will ultimately be a better way of doing this, but the issue here is that there is no strong centralized leadership here to institute any kind of meaningful change. But trust me, millionaires will ultimately grow tired of throwing cash at kids who enter the transfer portal after the first year.
