Charlie Baker, previously the governor of Massachusetts from 2015-2023, takes over from Mark Emmert effective March 1. He's 66, only four years younger than Emmert. He's a career public servant; in between public office stints, he was a healthcare CEO. As governor, he was an advocate of legalized sports gambling. Now, he'll be in charge of a regulatory organization overseeing 1,100 colleges and 500,000 athletes.
