Re the statement by Stalions’ attorney that the staff at Michigan was “unaware of improper conduct”: is it in any way possible that Stalions persuaded the staff that he had come up with a brand new system for decoding opposing teams’ signs/plays, the staff let him experiment with his novel “analytics” system, and that they didn’t question the methodology and/or want to seek details of what he was doing (especially when he started to demonstrate tremendous success)?

I am very skeptical of this but I never played or coached on a football team so I am trying to ascertain from true football insiders what the possibilities are of Stalions having operated in what seems to be such blatantly illegal fashion without anyone else’s knowledge on the staff.

On a similar note, what do you think are the chances that the players were in the dark about Stalions’ methods?  Is it possible they thought that some brilliant analytics geek had legitimately come up with some kind of remarkably successful new system?

Finally, re Bobby Carpenter’s statement about how exceptionally difficult it is to institute a new sign system during the season: is there any foolproof system to ensure that Michigan still does not have an illicit competitive advantage for the remainder of this season?  When I was growing up in the prehistoric era, coaches sent in guys from the sideline with plays to the huddle.  Is that even a possible option?

Thanks.

PS—to restore the credibility of the program, I think Michigan should consider hiring Eric Taylor.
