It’s important to remember that a) this is projection based on a snapshot in time, which is where teams are after Week 10, and b) the top four seeds won’t necessarily be the four best teams but the ACC, B1G, Big XII and SEC conference champions, which are guaranteed them first round byes. I see it looking something like this:
- Oregon (B1G)
- Georgia (SEC)
- Miami (ACC)
- BYU (Big XII)
- Ohio State (first at-large)
- Texas
- Penn State
- Tennessee
- Indiana
- Notre Dame
- Alabama or SMU
- Boise State (G5)
SMU is an admitted reach but its only loss was to BYU and it slayed unbeaten Pitt. I can see the committee giving the Mustangs a big boost considering five teams ranked ahead of SMU lost yesterday.
Unfortunately, playing Boise State in the Shoe in December won’t give us the same cold weather home field advantage that we’d get playing a team from the South. The Broncos may be even better suited for it than we are.
What does everyone else think?
EDIT: as people have pointed out below, the scenario I’ve laid out may not be what happens with this first poll. It may not be until conference championship games have been played before we know the seedings.
