Two Ohio State wrestling standouts went 3-0 in their first day of competition at the World Wrestling Clubs Cup in Tehran, Iran. Defending champs Titan-Mercury Wrestling, essentially Team USA though not technically wrestling under the Team USA banner, steamrolled three nations in the Pool Round of the Cup.

Kyle Snyder, the pound-for-pound best wrestler on the planet, notched two 10-0 tech falls and a 9-2 decision in the round-robin, best wrestlers from Bulgaria, Canada and India. Teammate Nick Heflin, the two-time All-American, likewise notched two 10-0 techs and a 4-0 decision (this match was reported as a pin by some reports out of Iran... Titan-Mercury's release gave the score 4-0, so that's what I'm rolling with).

Kyle Dake and Nick Gwiazdowski had the most impressive performances of the day, each rolling three straight 10-0 techs; Heflin is the only other wrestler on the team yet to give up a point.

The most shocking development was the upset of host club Bimeh Razi, the two-time World Cup champs, by fellow Iranian club Setaregan Sari. Each Iranian squad featured three Russian standouts, though Razi was thought to have more firepower with both Abdulrshid Sadulaev and Aniuar Geduev on their roster.

Semifinal matches were originally scheduled for 9:45 EST Thursday, but were pushed back to 1:30 a.m... in other words, to Friday morning in Tehran. Titan-Mercury will wrestle Khimori of Mongolia, with the other semifinal pitting Iranian clubs Setaregan Sari and Easy Pipe against one another.

Finals are tentatively slated for 8:30 a.m. EST Friday.
