In a flip of the script, Ohio State lost to Marquette in overtime Friday night, 8-7.
After leading 3-2 at the end of one, Marquette won the second quarter 2-1, and the 3rd quarter 3-1 to take a 7-5 lead into Q4.
OSU got goals from Jack Jasinski and Lukas Buckley to tie it up. After failing on yet another EMO with 4 minutes left, OSU went to overtime fpr the second game in a row.
After losing the opening faceoff in OT, John Wagner buried a shot for Marquette in sudden death time.
Keys to the game? Tre Leclaire had no goals, no assists, and only 3 shots, none of which were even on goal. Ohio State was balanced last year with Fannell and Leclaire on opposite sides of the field.
This year, Leclaire is getting all the attention. Ohio State needs to figure out a way to hurt other teams when the clamp down on Leclaire.
EMOs: Ohio State went 0-3, Marquette went 2-4. Ohio State is now 3-14 with an extra man this season. Nearly 20% is not going to cut it. The Buckeyes need to fix the offense if they hope to replicate last year's run.
Buckeye goalscorers were Jasinski (2), Buckley (2), Colin Chell, Jackson Reid, and Hank Bethke. Reid now has 8 goals on the year.
Detroit Mercy is up on Sunday. Back to the drawing board for Ohio State.
