Ohio State track and field's Adelaide Aquilla came up short of making the final in the Olympic shot put, finishing 20th in this morning's qualifiers with a best throw of 17.68 meters (just over 58 feet). She needed to finish in the top 12 to make the final.
Nonetheless, it's been a great year for Aquilla – a former walk-on – who won both the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships earlier this year before finishing third at the U.S. Olympic Trials. She'll now return to Ohio State for her additional year of eligibility, where she'll be a frontrunner to win more national championships in 2022.
