9:50 PST / 12:50 EST Buckeyes manage to get past Washington 4-1 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Indoor Championship.

OSU's match didn't start until after 10 pm EST.  OSU won one match and lost one in doubles. Then UW won the third set & the doubles point in a tie-breaker to go up 1-0.

Two singles matches started well for UW: in Singles 1, ITA #2 Clement Chidekh won a tie-breaker 7-5 to grab the first set 7-6 vs OSU's #6 Matej Vocel, and UW's Jack Davis won the first set 6-1 over OSU's Jake Van Emburgh (Singles 3).

But 3 matches started better for OSU with JJ Tracy, James Trotter and Robert Cash each taking the first set. Tracy & Trotter went on to win their matches 6-1, 6-2 (in Singles 4 and 5). That gave the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead.

It wasn't quite as easy for Cannon Kingsley as he won his match 6-4, 6-4 (in Singles 2).  So then it was OSU 3 UW 1. The Buckeyes needed one more point for the team win.

Meanwhile Cash lost his 2nd set and was down a break in the third, and Matej & Chidekh were battling fiercely 5-5 in their 2nd set. But OSU's Jake Van Emburgh had come back to even his match with a 7-5 second set, and followed it with 6-1 win in the third to give OSU the winning 4th point.

With the match-up decided, the other two matches— with OSU trailing in each—were not to be finished.

The strong comeback from Jake Van Emburgh (in Singles 3) allowed OSU to move on to the Quarterfinals.

The #1 seed Buckeyes will face 8-seed Wake Forest Saturday at 6:30 EST.  You can follow the live scoring at . . .
