What. A. Day. No one, NO ONE, saw this result coming. Even after the first half, this sort of result was not in the cards. But the Ohio State Buckeyes absolutely demolished a top 5 team, on the road, with aplomb. It was truly a team effort, but wow. There's a lot to be excited about!
I believe that OSU got North Carolina at just the right time, because the Heels have a ramshackle defensive unit due to injury and graduation. But Jack Myers was an absolute monster today. He scored two goals, assisted seven(!), and put himself in the race for serious end of year honors. Absolutely incredible performance from Myers today.
The entire starting attack was tremendous, as they combined for 9 goals, 8 assists, and 17 total points. Ohio State had an offensive performance for the ages, and has put the entire lacrosse world on notice. These Buckeyes are not the Buckeyes of 2017-2021. They're coming.
On defense, the entire unit was outstanding. They smothered UNC, led by Caton Johnson's 12 saves and .600 save percentage. Several defensive players got on the score sheet, and despite clearing issues, the Buckeyes gave UNC all they could handle.
At the faceoff dot, Justin Inacio was a tremendous 18-26, while Drew Blanchard went 3-4 in relief. As a total, the Buckeyes were 21 of 30, good for 70% on the day. That's how you keep UNC out of a game. And it worked perfectly.
On special teams, Ohio State was absolutely outstanding. The Buckeyes went 3-5 on Man Up, and held UNC to 1-5 on Man Down. Can't ask for much else.
Today was an outstanding day. There's a ton for this team to be proud of. Next week is a whole new ballgame, however. Harvard is playing for the first time in 2 years this season. And they're spoiling for recognition. Enjoy today. Tomorrow is a new week.
Go Bucks!
