We had the pleasure of attending the second round of the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Tournament tonight at the Covelli Center.
As a Top 16 team, OSU got to host first and second round games on campus. After defeating Tennessee State University yesterday, the Buckeyes advanced to face the Trojans of USC. In dominant fashion, OSU won in straight sets to advance to the Sweet 16.
The Buckeyes started off with a lead in the first set, but it quickly turned into a back and forth affair. Midway through the set, the Trojans took a 3-point lead. After exchanging a few points, OSU got hot and tied the game up. They retook the lead late and finally won 25-21.
In the second set, OSU took the first two points before giving up the serve. They really never looked back, and maintained a lead the rest of the way taking the set 25-17.
At that point, the ladies hit their stride and took it to the next level. Up 23-12 in the third set, the Buckeyes gave up four straight points as USC attempted a comeback attack facilitated but two critical replay reviews that reversed OSU points. But OSU stepped up and shut down the Trojans winning the third 25-16.
It was a great win and a great atmosphere. OSU plays the winner of Minnesota versus Northern Illinois in the Sweet 16.
