I have no words anymore. This staff, this team, they're just determined to absolutely lose the plot in every conceivable way. Ohio State was up 4 goals at halftime, scored twice in the third quarter, and went scoreless the rest of the game.
On consecutive possessions, the team didn't manage a shot. At all. The Buckeyes had a an absolutely bizarre meltdown at the end of regulation, with a ticky tack call going against them, but couldn't manage anything worthwhile when they had the ball for the final 67 seconds. ZERO 4th quarter goals. A head coach screaming at opposing players, for some reason.
Jiminy Christmas, can this season just end? What in the hell is going on with this program? Yes, injuries are really hurting. But my god, the backup FOGOs can't win more than 7 faceoffs? Maryland won 75% of the draws. Even 60% would have been a Buckeye W! Why are the Buckeyes paying a coach $330k to lose a bunch of games in horrible fashion, and embarrass the program on national TV?
The 18 seniors, transfers included, leave behind a legacy of abject failure. Colby Smith, who fired 41 goals last year, was 1-7. Jack Myers was 1-4. Neither had an assist. If just one of those 9 shots (27% of the total shots taken), falls, this is a huge win. Instead, yet again, Buckeyes lose in outrageous fashion.
I can't think of a game in the past few seasons where Ohio State has won after being down in the last quarter. It's been a long, long time. They can't close. You can count on the team to fall apart in crunch time every single time. It's got to stop. It's the same stuff we saw 5 years ago after 2017.
Can't score at all, just lose with a close score. Ohio State has not beaten a team of note this year. Zero ranked wins. North Carolina may move on after this season. Only Breschi has done less with more resources than Nick Myers.
I'll be ready to be hurt again next week. But damn, this one stings. So preventable with even basic competence on offense. And at faceoff. And with a goalie who makes more than 8 saves in a crucial game. Only Donal Mullane has been a more ineffective transfer with DIII pedigree than Kyle Lewis. Who else needs to take one after that? Just an abysmal performance.
Go Bucks.
