Greg Oden is leaving Butler’s coaching staff after two seasons.
The former Ohio State star told the Indy Star on Thursday that he is leaving Butler’s staff. He is expected to be replaced on Butler’s staff by Connor McCaffery, the son of Iowa coach Fran McCaffery; McCaffery, who played at Iowa and currently works for the Indiana Pacers, will now have the opportunity to coach his younger brother Patrick, who transferred from Iowa to Butler this offseason.
Oden joined Butler’s coaching staff in 2022 when his former coach at Ohio State, Thad Matta, became Butler’s head coach. He initially joined the staff as director of basketball operations, then was elevated to an assistant coaching position last year when the NCAA increased the assistant coach limit from three to five.
Before joining the staff at Butler, Oden was a graduate assistant for Chris Holtmann at Ohio State.
Oden declined to comment when asked by the Indy Star what his next move will be.
