I went back to watch the targeting play. One thing I couldn't get out of my mind was how the receiver could be considered defenseless and also a catch. The receiver clearly fumbled the ball. No part of his body was down before losing control and a the ball was clearly recovered immediately by Ohio State. The referees called it a catch AND targeting. Why was the fumble not taken into account?
Was It a Fumble? If So, What's the Ruling?
