So after the Nebraska game, Birm and several other people really came after the fans and said the atmosphere most of the game was dead and the crowd was quiet except late in the 4th quarter. From what I have seen, this has been a trend and not a one-off situation.
I saw a lot of blame in two directions.. old fans (like me I suppose) who don't get loud, and students who leave early.
Full disclosure, I haven't been back to a game for three years now. But I have a hard time believing that things have changed THAT much in that time.
I have noticed huge swaths of people leaving after the blowout games. It saddens me, but doesn't surprise me.
I grew up in the era where you went early and stayed at least until the final play. My kids, however, grew up with smart phones and the instant they are not entertained they are ready to move on. They have no patience to sit through a 30 second product promo in a YouTube ad, so asking one of them to sit around for 45 minutes in a blowout game would be asking for a miracle.
These are just my thoughts. What have you experienced in the Shoe this year? Is it as bad as some have said or not really a problem? Do you have any ideas to make the atmosphere better?
