Our fan base outlook seems to be lumped into a couple groups right now at the end of the regular season. Do you think this is accurate and are the reasons valid? Also, if you are an NFL fan, how does this compare when your team is in similar situation?
- I'm Done - Buckeyes lost football is over (if THE GAME was played any earlier in the season, would this change your outlook? Did you feel the same after Oregon game?)
- Ehh, we'll see - Will watch playoffs (Buckeyes for sure) and bowl games, but only if nothing else is one.
- Playoffs baby! (spread over 30 days!? is fatigue going to set in?)
Those in group 1 - I'm Done:
- Is THE GAME the end all be all, CFB is no longer relevant? If so, did you feel the same about the playoffs at the beginning of the season?
- Money: don't want to keep paying for sports packages, lost too much money gambling.
- State of the game: too much player $$$, no longer amateurs, expanded playoffs
- Did you feel the same last year (few years) as compared to this year?
- Other?
Those in group 2 - Ehh, we'll see:
- Definitely watching the Buckeyes, but might be done if they lose. I'll check in on Title game.
- I love football, but losing THE GAME again took it out of me.
- Like the playoffs, but just the great matchups.
- Other?
Those in group 3 - ALL IN!
- Love of the game baby!
- Money: Sports package and/or gambling
- Atmosphere: watch with friends, gameday food, beer, underdogs, BIG vs eSECpn
- I'm Uncle Rico, I like to see how much I would destroy these guys.
If you are an NFL fan:
- If your team is knocked out of contention, do you do the same thing?
- What is your take now on pay-for-play vs NFL?
I think this would be an interesting psychology study (I'm not doing that, just piqued interest) because of THE GAME, current state of CFB, expanded playoffs, $$$, demographic responses.

For me personally:
- I'm a low grade group 3. Love the Buckeyes, football, playoffs, evolution of the game
- Disappointed in the loss, but moving on to the next phase of the season; the boys are still in it!
- Raised on Cooper, but try to keep a level head toward THE GAME. I like a good rivalry, Bruce/Hayes era, having plenty of friends north of the border.
- Was in Phoenix for the 2006 1 vs 2 42-39 game. A scUM alumni friend owned a BW3, hosted a watch party, half Buckeyes-Half scUM fans. Was an awesome atmosphere and all fans displayed great sportsmanship!
- Didn't have a HATE HATE HATE feeling toward scUM but scandal has moved that needle simply based on the lies and disrespect to the game.
- I like the slow move toward 'parity' (non-P4 have not teams have a slightly better chance to improve than before) but the haves are always going to win. This ain't basketball.
- NFL: Grew up with Bengals, but Marino was my man, just not a huge fan anymore. Dunno, just kinda fell off the wagon with all the changes in the past 30+ years and massive influence of $$$. I watch some games during the season, more playoffs and then SuperBowl.
