With all the complaints about blowouts and seedings, one of the great things about this 12-team playoff is it is playing out one of the old football narratives, “the team that nobody wants to face.” That’s the team that gets hot at the end of the year but didn’t make the cut for the title. This happened all the time in the old BCS days and continued into the 4-team playoff. Right now our beloved Buckeyes are absolutely that team, and would NOT have had a chance to show it just last season. This of course raises the question of what other teams —OSU and others— would be your contenders to have won a national title in an expanded playoff format? I’ll go with the ‘98 and ‘15 versions of Ohio State. Who else you got?
