Since Texas is our next opponent, I decided to take a closer look at their games this season. Honestly, their SEC schedule has been shockingly soft—I’m surprised the SEC let a newcomer off so lightly in regards to scheduling. It’s hard not to wonder how Texas ended up with such an easy path in their first year. They’ve only had to face one truly tough conference matchup (Georgia), and they lost to them twice. All the grief Indiana was given about their schedule and Texas’ was no better!

Sure, no one can predict records ahead of time, but historically, teams like Mississippi State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Arkansas are among the weaker SEC programs, and Texas gets to play all of them. Florida, while historically a powerhouse, hasn’t been competitive for over a decade, yet they’re on the schedule too. I understand including their traditional rivals, OU and A&M, but even there, OU is coming off a down year, and A&M has a reputation for underperforming.

Ironically, though, Texas managed to dominate Michigan in non-conference play, and even Bama has dropped games to two of these weak SEC teams.
