Since it's offseason, and I am aging myself a bit here, but I'd like to celebrate just how loaded the 1984 team was: Tomczak as QB, Lachey Oline, Byars RB, Carter (freshman) and Lanese (who is one of my favorite Buckeyes) WR/Flankers. Spielman was a freshman and didn't see the field too much. Tupa at punter who was outstanding and also played QB after Tomczak left.
As good as this team was, they blew out everyone outside of a terrible Purdue and Wisconsin that year losing by a few points. They did handle Michigan well but then lost to a decent USC team by 3 points in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State ended up with a 9-3 record. Bittersweet to say the least.
It seemed to me that Bruce's teams always played well but then struggled with the likes of Wisconsin who was nowhere near the team they have had in recent years. It got me thinking about the Meyer tenure on how there were a few years he did the same thing with his great teams.
Here the 1984 TTUN game where the Buckeyes won 21-6
