This is pretty high-level and based solely on a teams final position in the 247sports composite rankings. I only did this for 14 teams since I would consider these teams to have the best chance at getting top tier recruits YoY (except for TTUN,PSU - Just included them for reference).
Some interesting takeaways though...
- Alabama is the clear leader with an average of 1.5 (Duh) ...But no other team averages close with Ohio State sitting at 4.6, Georgia at 5.1 and LSU at 6.3. This is the top 3 and after them its not even close.
- The SEC is the clear leader as a conference and you might think that the talent gap is only getting worse in the B1G but a closer look shows that from 2012-2016 only 4 teams (OSU,TTUN,MSU,PSU) ranked in the Top 25 with no more than 2 teams in one given cycle. 2021, by comparison sees 7 B1G teams ranking in the Top 25
- 2. OSU
- 10. TTUN
- 15. WI
- 19. MD
- 20. NEB
- 21. PSU
- 23. IA
- So it's not a stretch to say that the rest of the B1G is stepping up their game (Aside from Purdue and Illinois)
- In recruiting, in general things are not trending in a good direction for the Big12 and Pac12 - Really only have two teams competing for the majority of the talent
- The ACC is definitely trending in a more competitive direction with FSU,Miami and UNC on the rise (And I suppose if you want to count ND)
- It's been a great decade to be a Buckeye
- OSU would be at a 3.5 avg w/o that awful 2019 cycle
Here's the list from the last 10 cycles:
- Bama (1.5)
- OSU (4.6)
- UGA (5.1)
- LSU (6.3)
- UF and FSU (10.4)
- TAMU (10.6)
- Texas (10.9)
- Clem (11.2)
- Aub (11.3)
- OU (12.2)
- ND (12.3)
- TTUN (13.4)
- USC (14.3)
- Tenn (14.6)
- Ore (15.3)
- Miami (16)
- PSU (20.7)
