Yay, baseball!
The MLB owners and MLBPA have reportedly reached a deal on the CBA. Details still haven't been fully released yet, but what we do know is:
- Playoffs expanded to a 12-team format
- Universal DH
- Six-team draft lottery
- New $50-million bonus pool
- Increases to competitive balance tax thresholds (starting at $230M, rising to $244M)
- Changes to minimum salary (starting at $700K, rising to $780K)
- Addressing service-time manipulation
- Top two Rookie of the Year finalists get full year of service time
- 9 inning doubleheaders (Credit: Keith7456)
- No runner starting on 2nd base in extra innings (Credit: Keith7456)
- 20-round amateur draft
- Players can be optioned to the minor leagues a maximum of five times per year
Players can report to spring training as early as Friday. Opening Day is expected to be April 7th. And while Rob Manfred set deadlines and canceled the first four series' of the season, it appears a 162-game season is still a possibility. Confusing, I know.
The deal still needs to be ratified. Owners are scheduled to ratify tonight at 6 p.m. eastern.
